This course will present theory and concepts the person beginning the study of nursing will need to know in order to develop the knowledge and competence demanded by the complexity of the changing health care system.

This course consists of 6 lessons:

Lesson 2. The Adult Patient Care Unit.

Lesson 3. Advanced Principles of Patient Hygiene.

Lesson 4. Body Mechanics.

Lesson 5. Active and Passive Range of Motion Exercises.

Lesson 6. Environmental Health and The Practical Nurse.

You are encouraged to complete the course lesson by lesson.

Medical science has advanced since this US Army training course was originally written.

While this online course preserves the Army’s original material, some important clarifications and updates are also provided, identified by a dark red outlined box.

Read and study each lesson carefully.

Complete the course lesson by lesson. After completing each lesson, work the exercises at the end of the lesson.

After completing each set of lesson exercises, compare your answers with those on the solution sheet, which follows the exercises. If you have answered an exercise incorrectly, check the reference cited after the answer on the solution sheet to determine why your response was not the correct one.

As you successfully complete each lesson, go on to the next. When you have completed all of the lessons, complete the examination.
