Eight Medical Pouches are included in the MOLLE Medic
system. Four can
be attached to the vest and 4 attached to the outside of the Medical
Bag.
Each pouch can be zippered shut. This is a very secure way to close the
pouch, but slow to open if you are in a hurry.
The zippers are stiff and require two right-angle turns to open.
Each pouch can also be closed with a Velcro strap. This allows for
faster access but is not as secure as the zipper closure. When not in use,
the Velcro taps can be rolled up and out of the way.
It is useful to number the pouches. This allows for quick location
of supplies by yourself or others who are helping you. ("Open up
pouch #1 and grab me the scissors!")
For demonstration purposes (so you can see them), the numbers
have been written on adhesive tape. In operational settings, you wouldn't
want to use white adhesive tape as it makes you too visible a target, and
the tape tends to fall off in the rain. It is better to use a black permanent marker
and write the numbers directly on the fabric.

Loading the Pouches
The pouches can be loaded in any way prescribed by the medical
commander. Logic and consistency are useful. They should be packed tightly
enough to avoid wasting space and to avoid rattling. They should not be
packed so tightly that access is difficult. One standard way of loading
them is provided here:
Pouches #1, #2, #3, and #4 are carried on the front of the MOLLE vest
and have roughly the same volume as the old Unit One bag. The supplies
contained in them are similar to that of a Unit One.
