Small battle dressings are used for most wounds. They are large enough (4" X 7") to cover most wounds while being light in weight and compact in size.
  • Tear open the plastic cover and remove the dressing.
  • Twist the dressing to break the inner paper wrapper and loosen the dressing.
  • Unfold the absorbent portion of the dressing. It is folded in an "M" shape.
  • Place the white, absorbent side against the wound.
  • Wrap the olive drab "tails" around the body and dressing to keep it firmly in place.

When fully saturated, a small battle dressing will contain almost 250 ml of blood (1/2 a unit).

The plastic wrapper can be used (with adhesive tape) to effectively occlude an open chest wound. For further information, see Chest Seal
