The Excavation

It took a while (months) before the Excavators were ready to work.

We had a very wet spring, and while they were planning to fix the surface water and mud problem around my shed, it had to dry out enough that they weren’t trying to shove mud around.

Once they started, there were some additional details of the project that I discovered.

After regrading and smoothing the ground, they played landscapers fabric down and nailed it in place.

They used a bulldozer blade to re-slope and smooth the ground leading from the gate down to the pond. Then they layered landscaping fabric on top of the bare ground, and nailed it in place. Finally, they delivered tons and tons of gravel to lay on top of the fabric. The fabric held the gravel in place, and the underlying dirt away from the gravel. The gravel facilitated rapid downhill conveyance of the ground water and provided a smooth, driveway like surface for vehicles.

Tons of gravel were placed over the landscaping fabric.

The results were outstanding. I now had easy access from the road down to the shed, without driving through standing water and mud.

This was an unexpected expense, but to me, well worth it.
