In 1943, Mrs. Perkins arranged for a date for Tom Cartmell while he was in training in Phoenix, Arizona. The date’s name was Virginia Roche. Tom was surprised that Virginia knew Tom’s cousin, Bebe (DeMoulin) Pirtle while attending Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.

For their date, they went to the Corinthian Room at the Adams Hotel in Phoenix.
