Fred Waring was a popular band leader who performed frequently during WWII with his band, “The Pennsylvanians”. He performed in Phoenix in November, 1943, for the Thunderbird Army Airfields, for a show attended by Tom Cartmell.

Waring was a complex man, who had studied architectural engineering at Penn State University, before turning his full time attention to music.

In the 1930’s he assisted inventor Frederick Jacob Osius in the final development, financial support and marketing of a new device, known at the Waring Blendor.

His music was primarily arrangements of popular songs originally written and performed by others, often with some clever additions. He also performed many patriotic songs, as part of the war effort.
