Elizabeth Anne (“Bebe”) Pirtle was Tom Cartmell’s first cousin.

Tom’s mother, Oradelle (DeMoulin) Cartmell had a brother, Leslie DeMoulin. They both lived in Greenville, Illinois. Leslie had two children, William and Elizabeth.

When Elizabeth was a baby, her grandfather, Erastus, would visit and ask, in French, “Ou est le bebe?” (“Where is the baby?”). Bebe became her nickname and she adopted it for her adult life.

Bebe DeMoulin attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and among her friends was Virginia Roche. Virginia was later set up for a date with Tom Cartmell when he was in training in Arizona.

Bebe passed away in 2016.
