Norm and Helen Higgs were close friends of Stanley and Elaine Hughey, and through them, Tom Cartmell, Elaine’s brother.

An attorney, he and his wife, Helen lived near Stanley and Elaine on West Lakeside Place in Chicago. They travelled together and considered each other best friends.

Helen and Norm had no children of their own and for the Hughey children, they over time became honorary aunt and uncle.
