An upscale residential hotel in the 1930s and 1940s, Dr. and Mrs. Cartmell (Tom’s parents) lived here in 1944.
Built in 1929, it once counted Charlie Chaplin among its guests.
In the 1950s, its popularity waned and its clientele changed. It was ultimately purchased in a bank foreclosure sale and has recently (2013) been rehabilitated, restoring much of its former ambience.
