Harold “Tippy” Lockard was Tom Cartmell’s physical training and calisthenic instructor while at Santa Ana Army Air Base in southern California.
Tippy played football at the University of Michigan, and was both a team mate and friend of Tom Harmon, the Heisman Trophy winner (and later sports broadcaster).
In 1943 and 44, Tippy played professional football for the Los Angeles Mustangs, and in 1946, the Tacoma Indians.
He died February 1, 1971 in Pierce County, Washington.
