The Greenville Advocate is a newspaper, serving Bond County, Illinois since 1858. It is still circulating twice a week, in print and electronic format.
When Tom Cartmell was living in Greenville, it was the primary source of news for most of the community. In January, 1941, when Tom is in his senior year of high school, he begins writing to Zoe Foran, his romantic interest, who is attending the University of Illinois.
The Greenville Advocate was gracious in their willingness to provide for this site, a copy of their newspaper from January 11, 1941, as an example of the depth and breadth of news to which Tom would have access at that time.
