OBGYN Morning Rounds

Welcome to OBGYN Morning Rounds

This 6-week virtual rotation in Introductory Obstetrics & Gynecology provides the student with interactive and multimedia educational material designed to complement their clinical training women's health care.

I've prepared several parts for this rotation:

• Daily Schedule This schedule allows you to move progressively through the six weeks on a day-by-day basis.
• Morning Rounds We go on rounds together, while I discuss with you different patients we are seeing or patients I have recently seen in the outpatient clinic. Each patient presentation involves at least one significant learning issue for you. I try to emphasize not just the "what we did" part of the patient care, but "why we did what we did."
• Afternoon Lectures While it is helpful to learn from specific patients, some topics lend themselves to a more systematic review. Each afternoon, I'll give you a couple of lectures on specific topics that you should master before completing your rotation.
• OBGYN Skills Lab Obstetrics and Gynecology is not just a "thinking" specialty, but also a "doing" specialty. In the Skills Lab, you'll learn how to "do" many of the mechanical tasks that are important in this specialty. Short, 5-minute videos are the mainstay of this section.
• Sim Lab After learning about the many women's health issues, I hope you'll go to the Patient Simulation Lab, where you will be presented with patients and asked to engage clinically, making decisions and directing their care. It's OK to make mistakes here, and I expect you'll learn as much from your mistakes as you do from your successes.
• Educational Objectives  The materials presented here are not just random thoughts...they all apply to standardized educational objectives. Many institutions have published their own educational objectives for introductory obstetrics and gynecology, and they vary from organization to organization. Here, I've made up my own educational objectives, based on an amalgam of published, standardized objectives, and my own experience in teaching this material to students for a long time.

None of this is graded, it's all free, and I hope you will enjoy learning more about women's health care.

By the way, as you move through this material, you will quickly realize that it's not all complete. That's because I'm not finished with it yet, but I hope you'll make good use of the material that is complete.
