Introduction


Never before has there been a greater need for nurses. Never before has health care delivery challenged the nurse's commitment, knowledge, or technical competence more.

Issues influencing current health-care delivery focus on promoting wellness, preventing illness, and rehabilitation to increase the patient's independence.

This subcourse will present theory and concepts the person beginning the study of nursing will need to know in order to develop the knowledge and competence demanded by the complexity of the changing health care system.

Subcourse Components:

This subcourse consists of 6 lessons:

Lesson 1. Patient Relations.

Lesson 2. The Adult Patient Care Unit.

Lesson 3. Advanced Principles of Patient Hygiene.

Lesson 4. Body Mechanics.

Lesson 5. Active and Passive Range of Motion Exercises.

Lesson 6. Environmental Health and The Practical Nurse.

Credit Awarded:

Upon successful completion of this subcourse, you will be awarded 12 credit hours.

Procedures for Subcourse Completion:

You are encouraged to complete the subcourse lesson by lesson. When you have completed all of the lessons to your satisfaction, fill out the examination answer sheet and mail it to the AMEDDC&S along with the Student Comment Sheet in the envelope provided. Be sure that your name, rank, social security number, and return address are on all correspondence sent to the AMEDDC&S. You will be notified by return mail of the examination results. Your grade on the exam will be your rating for the subcourse.

Study Suggestions:

Here are some suggestions that may be helpful to you in completing this subcourse:

--Read and study each lesson carefully.

--Complete the subcourse lesson by lesson. After completing each lesson, work the exercises at the end of the lesson, marking your answers in this booklet.

--After completing each set of lesson exercises, compare your answers with those on the solution sheet, which follows the exercises. If you have answered an exercise incorrectly, check the reference cited after the answer on the solution sheet to determine why your response was not the correct one.

--As you successfully complete each lesson, go on to the next. When you. have completed all of the lessons, complete the examination. Mark your answers in the examination booklet; then transfer your responses to the examination answer sheet using a #2 pencil.
