Single Layer Closure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The single layer closure of a wound is the technique\u00a0of choice for repairing most of the lacerations that are treated in an emergency\u00a0department.<\/p>\n<p>Most lacerations of the extremities, trunk, and scalp require only one layer\u00a0of suturing. Single layer closure is usually not used on the face.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/147966647\" width=\"500\" height=\"409\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Before starting to\u00a0repair the wound, decide how far the sutures should be placed from each other and how\u00a0far they should be from the edge of the wound. When there are definite landmarks\u00a0(eyebrows, lip, etc.), place the sutures so that the landmark is brought into alignment.\u00a0Use one of these two methods of suturing:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(1) Start at one end of the wound and work to the other end of the wound.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(2) Continually bisect the wound until the wound is closed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CAUTION: The second technique listed can cause the tissue to buckle.
