Juliet Henderson
Life’s a privilege
Of breath sucked in
By the bloody miracle
Of the infant calling for its mother’s love
That becomes a shifting pattern
Of inhalations and exhalations
Steering the soul
Through its brilliant intensities
Its digestions and
Its moments of calm repose
The same breath
Threaded through time
Till the last racketing moan
And there’s no second time round
