a. Procedure by Surgeon

Using curved Mayo scissors, the external oblique muscle is split the length of the incision. Bleeding vessels are controlled with hemostats and ligatures. The external oblique muscle is then retracted.

NOTE : Curved Mayo scissors are used for muscle or tough tissue. Straight Mayo scissors are used to cut suture.
