Hemostats are used to control bleeding vessels. Clamped vessels are ligated (tied) or cauterized with the electrosurgical unit pencil. In the absence of an assistant, the surgeon may ask scrub to hold, then release, hemostats as ties are placed or electrosurgical unit is used.
b. Items Supplied by Scrub
- Mosquito or Crile hemostats
- Suture ties per surgeon’s preference (free ties or tie on reel)
- Straight Mayo scissors
