Ectopic Pregnancy

These videos show examples of tubal ectopic pregnancy, as viewed through a laparoscope. In these examples, both are treated surgically.

They were produced by the US Navy as training for medical personnel in isolated settings. It was included on the Operational Obstetrics & Gynecology CD. They may be freely downloaded.

Removal of a Right Tubal Ectopic Pregnancy

"The left fallopian tube as seen here is normal."

"The tubal ectopic pregnancy is located on the opposite side."

"A linear incision is made over the antimesenteric border of the fallopian tube."

"Then, the ectopic pregnancy is removed."

"The opened tube is irrigated and checked for any continuing bleeding."

Left Tubal Ectopic Pregnancy

"The uterus is seen in the center."

"The probe is used to move the left fallopian tube into view."

"The fimbriated end of the tube contains the early ectopic pregnancy."

"The patient is slowly bleeding through the fallopian tube into the abdomen."

"Free blood is seen collecting behind the uterus in the cul-de-sac...and also between the liver and the diaphragm."

"After the ectopic is expelled or surgically teased out of the end of the fallopian tube, all bleeding stops."

"The abdomen is irrigated to be sure there is no additional bleeding."

"A normal recovery is expected."
