EXTERNAL GENITALIA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The vulva and its parts make up the external genitalia.<\/p>\n<p>The word vulva is a term\u00a0that has been designated to stand for the external genitalia of the female.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/111931580\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div id=\"adx_native_ad_110653\"><\/div>\n<p>a. <strong>Mons Pubis<\/strong>. The elevated, fatty tissue covered with coarse pubic hair which\u00a0lies over the symphysis pubis is the mons pubis. \u00a0Pubic hair appears at puberty. The\u00a0function of the mons pubis is to protect the pelvic bone.<\/p>\n<p>b.<strong> Labia Majora<\/strong>. The labia majora are large, longitudinal folds of skin and fatty\u00a0tissue which extend back from the mons pubis to the anus. \u00a0The outer surfaces are\u00a0covered with hair. The inner surfaces are smooth and moist. The corresponding\u00a0structure in the male is the scrotum. The fold above the clitoris is called the prepuce of the\u00a0clitoris. The fold below is the frenulum. No pubic hair is on these structures.<\/p>\n<p>d. <strong>Clitoris<\/strong>. The clitoris is a small projection of sensitive, erectile tissue which\u00a0corresponds to the male penis. \u00a0The female urethra, however, does not pass through\u00a0the clitoris. As in the male penis, the clitoris is covered by prepuce.<\/p>\n<p>e.<strong> Urinary Meatus<\/strong>. The urinary meatus is the small opening of the urethra\u00a0which is located between the clitoris and the vagina.<\/p>\n<p>f. <strong>Vaginal Orifice<\/strong>. This is the opening to the vagina from the outside.<\/p>\n<p>g. <strong>Bartholin&#8217;s Glands.<\/strong> These are bean-shaped glands located on each side of\u00a0the vaginal orifice. They provide lubrication of the vagina.<\/p>\n<p>h. <strong>Perineum<\/strong>.
