BREECH PRESENTATION"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a breech delivery, the baby&#8217;s buttocks appear first instead of the head.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/112098094\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Make\u00a0every effort to get the mother to a hospital if it appears the baby will be a breech\u00a0delivery. If there is no time to do this, follow these procedures:<\/p>\n<p>a. Make the same preparations as for a normal delivery.<\/p>\n<p>b. Allow the baby&#8217;s buttocks and trunk to deliver spontaneously.<\/p>\n<p>c. When the infant&#8217;s legs are clear, support the baby&#8217;s legs and trunk.<\/p>\n<p>d. Allow the baby&#8217;s head to deliver spontaneously.<\/p>\n<p>e. After the head delivers, continue as a normal birth.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>NOTE: If the head does not deliver in three minutes, create an air passage by\u00a0inserting your gloved hand in the vagina. Form a V with your fingers on either\u00a0side of the baby&#8217;s nose. Push the vaginal wall away from the baby&#8217;s face,\u00a0maintaining the airway you have created until the baby&#8217;s head is delivered.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>NOTE: If the head does not deliver in three minutes of establishing the airway,\u00a0transport the mother to a hospital immediately. Have the mother&#8217;s buttockselevated on pillows or blankets and maintain the airway you have created for\u00a0the baby.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>CAUTION: DO NOT allow the head to be delivered forcefully<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>DO NOT pull the baby out.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a breech delivery, the baby&#8217;s buttocks appear first instead of the head.
