Allow some of patient&#8217;s own possessions (such as a pillow or afghan) when possible.<\/p>\n<p>Change the bed position (head and knee).<\/p>\n<p>Reduce the noise and light in the patient&#8217;s room.<\/p>\n<p>Check for mechanical reasons for discomfort:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bed linens or Chux\u00ae which are gathered and wrinkled under the patient.<\/li>\n<li>Plastic mattress covers that wrinkle and cause pressure.<\/li>\n<li>Top covers which may be pulled too tightly over the feet and legs.<\/li>\n<li>The patient lying on tubes, drains, syringe caps, or other equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Soiled dressings, urine, and feces causing the bed to be wet.<\/li>\n<li>Nonfunctioning equipment, to include alarms sounding without cause.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Obtain comfortable bedding.
