BLADDER TRAUMA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>a. Trauma to the bladder includes contusions, rupture, or urethral injuries.<\/p>\n<p>b. Causes include blunt trauma and penetrating injuries to the lower abdomen, fractures of the pelvis or symphysis pubis, and &#8220;seatbelt&#8221; rupture. (A full bladder can be ruptured by the force of impact in a collision when the seatbelt is worn snugly.)<\/p>\n<p>c. Signs and symptoms of an injured or ruptured bladder include:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(1) Hematuria.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(2) Blood at the urinary meatus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(3) Failure to void.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(4) Rigid abdomen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(5) Shock.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(6) Hemorrhage.<\/p>\n<p>d. Nursing implications.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(1) Treat shock and hemorrhage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(2) Maintain strict I &amp; O.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(3) Catheterize as ordered.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(4) Prepare for surgical repair of the bladder if indicated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>a.
