a. Initiate Intravenous Infusion.

An intravenous (IV) infusion should have already been initiated. If an IV has not been initiated, consider doing it now based on a good triage of medical supplies and your other patients.

b. Monitor Vital Signs.

Continue to monitor the casualty’s vital signs. The casualty’s blood pressure should remain stable.

c. Monitor the Medical Anti-Shock Trousers.

Look and feel for softness in the MAST. Listen for an active air release valve (loud, constant sound). If a section of the MAST looks and feels soft, inflate the section again.

d. Deflating the Medical Anti-Shock Trousers.

Once the MAST has been applied to a casualty, it should not be removed unless a physician who is familiar with the MAST orders its removal.
