 This aircraft is a T-tailed aeromedical
airlift with two jet engines and a pressurized, air-conditioned
cabin.
The Nightingale is the military version of the civilian DC-9 airliner,
with the interior configured specifically for patient care and transport.
It is the only aircraft in the USAF inventory dedicated to the medical
evacuation mission.
It has a self-contained patient enplaning ramp and can accomodate 40
litter patients, 40 ambulatory patients, or a combination of both.
The most common configuration is for 15 litter and 24 ambulatory
patients.
The medical crew normally consists of two flight nurses and three
aeromedical evacuation technicians.
