Army Rangers

Over 2,000 Army Rangers currently comprise the 75th Ranger Regiment, made up of three Ranger Battalions:

  • 1st Battalion, located at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia

  • 2nd Battalion, located at Fort Lewis, Washington

  • 3rd Battalion and Regimental Headquarters, located at Fort Benning, Georgia

The Rangers have a proud history dating from before the American Revolutionary War.

These highly trained men form an elite light infantry force. They can engage in any climate, on any terrain, in any weather, at any time. They can deploy by helicopter, parachute, or small boat. They are practiced in long-range reconnaissance, raiding, riverine, amphibious, urban, and mountain warfare.

Each Ranger Battalion (580 soldiers) has three combat companies, a battalion headquarters, and a headquarters company. Within the headquarters company is a medical section that provides medical care for the battalion.

Each combat company  has three rifle platoons (152 men) and one a weapons platoon (22 men). Each platoon has three rifle squads and a machine gun squad. Each squad also has an armed, combat medic.
