You've already come to the end of the pier,
climbed the ladder and stopped just before entering the Quarterdeck of the
ship. You've turned to the stern (rear) of the ship and saluted the flag
(Ensign), and then you've turned to the Officer of the Deck, saluted (no
matter what your rank or his/her rank), and asked: "I request
permission to come aboard."
The OOD returned your salute and welcomed you aboard. You may need to
show your ID card and state your reason for visiting, unless they are
expecting you.
The Boxer is a 40,500 ton amphibious assault ship, of the Wasp Class.
It was launched in 1993.
It is designed to carry a Marine Expeditionary Force of 1800 personnel,
and all its' equipment to far forward areas and support any of their
activities. It carries Humvees, Amphibious Assault Vehicles, Tanks,
Artillery pieces, water trucks, bulldozers, helicopters, and jet
aircraft.
Now that you're aboard, we'll walk you through the Hanger
Deck and up the ramp to the Flight Deck.
Half-way up the ramp are a set of double doors that are the main entrance
to the Medical Department.
Let's go in a take a look around.
