Laparotomy Video Make an incision down to the abdominal fascia. Secure significant bleeders in the subQ tissues. Incise the abdominal fascia, separating it from the underlying muscle. The rectus abdominus muscles are fused in the midline. Separate the muscles, initially bluntly, then sharply. Open the peritoneum carefully to avoid injury to the underlying structures.
