After a classical scrub, the hands are held above the waist while the scrubbed staff enters the operating room backwards, using their body to open the door. The hands need to be dried before surgical gloves can be worn. If the hands are not dried in a careful stylized way, the staff may become contaminated and will need to restart the scrubbing-in procedure.
