Bacitracin Injection

Category:

  • Antibiotic

Description:

  • Topical anti-infective

Indications:

  • Infants with pneumonia and empyema caused by sensitive staphylococi

  • NOTE: for IM administration only

Contraindications:

  • None

Precautions:

  • Pregnancy category N/A

  • Maintain adequate fluid intake orally or parenterally.

Adverse Reactions (Side Effects):

  • Nephrotoxic: albuminuria, cylindruria, azotemia

  • Nausea, vomiting

  • Skin rashes

  • Pain at injection site

Dosage:

  • Administered by IM injection

  • Infants (<2.5kg): 

    • 900 units/kg/24 hours in 2-3 divided doses

  • Infants (>2.5kg): 

    • 1000 units/kg/24 hours in 2-3 divided doses
